Holding space is sitting with you, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and letting you know that you are not alone.

At Held Counselling we are all about holding space for you – we will never tell you what to do. Instead, we will listen, validate and support you to work through whatever is going on. Counselling is a safe, non-judgemental, neutral, and confidential space to explore and better understand your experiences - both past and present, as well as hopes for your future. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings, identify patterns and core beliefs, recognise strengths, learn new techniques, and overcome challenges – helping you live a life in pursuit of what matters to you.

Our approach

We use a person-centred and integrative approach to counselling.

Some of our modalities include:

Person Centred Therapy

Person-Centred Therapy acknowledges you as a person with incredible strength and ability. Your counsellor will support you to develop a greater sense of self, empowering you to better understand and resolve challenges you face in life. Person centred therapy focuses on connection to self and creating congruence between your behaviour and feelings.

Weight inclusive counselling

Held Counselling has done a significant amount of professional development and training around working with people in bigger bodies. This work includes better understanding the challenges and discrimination facing people in bigger bodies, the social structures that impact them, and how best to support people in a world that idealises thinness.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you live a life in alignment with your values. Using mindfulness and acceptance techniques you are supported to better sit with uncertainty and elements of your life where you do not have control.

Schema Therapy

We all have core emotional needs. Maladaptive schemas develop when our core childhood needs are not met. Schema Therapy supports you to identify and address these needs, helping you break unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, and develop more helpful alternatives to replace them.

Session details

Counselling sessions are available in person and online, and run for 50 minutes.

We recommend that clients attend fortnightly - this allows the counsellor and client to develop a close relationship and provides the client with regular and meaningful support.

Counselling sessions costs $130.

Please note, counsellors are unable to offer Medicare rebates. Session fees have been kept affordable to allow you to attend counselling regularly and not be restricted to a certain amount of rebated appointments each year. Part of the beauty of seeing a counsellor means we are able to step outside the ‘medical model’ and use a variety of therapy modalities to support you.
